Ezra. The civil leader was Zerubbabel, who was certainly a descendant of David (1 Chron. 3:19); the high priest was Jeshua (Joshua), who was a descendant of the last high priest in the first temple; and the two prophets Haggai and Zechariah encouraged Zerubbabel, Joshua, and the people to get on with the task. The book of Ezra relates that the temple was completed, with royal permission and support, on the third of the month Adar (the twelfth month) in the sixth year of King Darius (516/15 BCE; Ezra
